Listen

In the gospel of John, Jesus speaks and says “These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33 NKJV)

I love God’s word and His promises.  What He says He will do, we can count on.  He cannot lie and will never go back on His word.  He tells us in advance many things so we can be prepared.  He told us that we will “have tribulation in this world.”  He told us that we could have “peace and be of good cheer.”  Then, why, when something adverse happens in my life do I often feel like I have been blindsided? I feel unprepared and unaware of how to handle the crisis.

For twenty-two years I worked in the medical field within a hospital network.  For several of those years I worked night shift.  There were two of us on duty each night to handle any given trauma or crisis that arose.  I saw firsthand accidents, sickness, heart attacks etc…  The list was endless.  When I thought I had seen or experienced about everything, something new and unexpected would occur.  The one thing that I learned was always be prepared for whatever might “roll in.”  We are never guaranteed the next heart beat, breath or moment.  We must live and love each day like it is our last.  One day, it will be.  Tell your spouse, parents, children, grandkids how much you value and love them.  Tomorrow it might be too late.

The fact is we live in a world that is broken from sin.  We have an enemy, the devil, who is out to kill, steal and destroy.  We have a Savior who knows all the tribulation and trials that each of us will have to experience.  He loves us and came to redeem us.  He overcame this world so that we could have His peace, comfort, joy.  He never leaves us or forsakes us.  When He makes a promise, He keeps it.  My bank account may be empty but His account will always be full.

I must fix my eyes on Him.  I must trust Him.  When my eyes don’t see where He is leading, I must take His hand and not let go.  I must allow Him to lead; surrender my will and follow.

God is calling…
Do you have “ears to hear?”
On your knees are you falling
Or do you tremble with fear?

Is what you are going through
A test? Persecution? Pain?
Is He trying to draw your eye to Him; off of you?
Is He whispering “Trust Me”, again?

Stop. Listen. Be still.

What does Jesus want you to learn?
Call out to Him; only He can satisfy and fill.
All else is emptiness and will burn.
Nothing for Jesus is ever a waste!
We must share the good news; live by His mercy and grace.
He is coming with haste!
Soon, very soon, we will see Him face to face!
